Extra Credit Policy
I will post extra credit opportunities throughout the semester - films, news article, scholarly journal articles, events, etc. - both on our class website, and the Women's Studies blog
In all cases, you can see/write/attend the option, and then write up a one-page single-spaced review (500-600 words) for extra credit, or write a 500-600 word post to the class blog (as a comment, if you can, or an original post).
In the review, you should spend the first paragraph explaining what you did, and when. Give a basic summary of the film/event, telling what the basic content or plotline is, with enough details so I get the idea (but not too much).
Then go on to tell me why the event or film is related to class. What subjects or issues does it touch on? Does it exemplify some trend or detail we've talked about? Does it tell us something about a particular historical period?
Finally, give me your informed opinion about the event. Was it well done? Was it interesting? Boring? How would you change or improve the event? Please be honest in this section - you really don't have to tell me what you think I want to hear - if it sucked, say so, but tell me why it sucked. And how would you do it better?
The points for extra credit range from 5-10 points for on-campus events or reading online articles or watching films, to 20 points for attending local events (films or lectures or exhibitions). The points totally depends on the quality of your writeup, so if you're going to do extra credit, do it well. If you do a crummy writeup of a film, I reserve the right to give no points or 2 points.
DUE DATES: For particular events like a film, exhibit, or lecture, the extra credit is due within one week of attendance. For articles or rental films, you can do them as long as they're available online. The last day to submit any extra credit is the last day of class.
